A memorable holiday trip to Meghamalai, a hidden paradise of Tamil Nadu

We friends visited Meghamalai recently on our holiday trip to Theni. I had heard of Meghamalai from a friend of mine before and so, us we were visiting Theni, decided to go there also. Meghamalai is a beautiful and unexplored hill station of Tamil Nadu. We booked the accommodation at Raja Andhuvan Estate Homestay in Chinnamanur. The hospitality of the estate owner was very nice. The rent was also in our budget. We were also provided with food along with stay. The word meaning of Meghamalai is hills covered with clouds. The hill station is known for its beautiful cardamom plantations and tea estates. We had to travel for about two and a half hours to reach Meghamalai from Chinnamanur. While reaching the hill top we could see forest lodges and rest houses. But we got to know that for staying there prior reservation and permission is required. The hill station was not so crowded. The place was an ultimate location for nature lovers.  We had a great walk around the tea estates and forest area. The locals informed us that we have to be careful us elephants and leopards are found there frequently. As Meghamalai is very close to the forest, we could see a number of wild animals roaming there. This was an ideal place for bird watching. We also visited Meghamalai falls, also known as the Clouds Land Falls which does not dry. There were a few tourist spots in Meghamalai such as Highwavy dam, Vattaparaii, Manalar, Venniyar and Iravangalaru dams, Megamalai estate and Maharajamettu, etc. The transportation available to visit most of these tourist spots was by jeep.  We also spent time in trekking, swimming, fishing, etc. Only thing we found there in bad condition was the roads.
