Bhubaneswar is the capital city of Odisha. The city is well known for its temples. The place is also known as “the temple city of India”. I had a great weekend trip with my friends to Odisha. Experience of the rich cultural life of Bhubaneswar was remarkable. I could see tourists from far and wide visiting the place. The genuine over view of the stages of development of Hindu temple architecture can be seen here. It is here in this city the Odishan style of temple construction bloomed from its very beginning to its fullest completion. Now the city is an exclusive fusion of a magnificent past and emanating novelty. We stayed at Patra Guest House at Bhubaneswar. We were offered a perfect budget stay there. [caption id="attachment_1061" align="alignnone" width="300"] Bhubaneswar[/caption] There we visited Mukteswara temple, a thousand years old temple complex. We could very well perceive the unique Odishan style of temple architecture there. Nandankanan Wildlife Sanctuary here harbors rare species and different kinds of birds and animals. A must visit place at Bhubaneswar is the Lingaraja temple. This is a very beautiful and serene temple symbolizing haif Vishnu and half Shiva. The Udaygiri and Khandagiri caves at Bhubaneswar are a place with great historic value. The inscriptions on the cave were of Brahmi and Devanagiri scripts. The two rock-cut Jain temples here possess lovely sculptures and rock cut figures carved out of the two rocky hills near to the Udaygiri and Khandagiri caves. There were many other tourist places at Bhubaneswar worth visiting. From the shops there we could purchase Silver filigree, Stone and Wood carving, Patta paintings, Tie and Dye work clothes, bamboo basketry, brass and bell metal work items, horn work, and many other famous handicrafts of Odisha. Bhubaneswar is very well connected through rail, road and air network. The best time to visit Bhubaneswar is from October to March.
