Mahabalipuram is a marvelous place of historic architectures facing Bay of Bengal. I along with my family had a wonderful holiday trip to Mahabalipuram. The earlier name of Mahabalipuram was Mamallapuram. The place is situated in the Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu. We were able to see a lot of statues there, among them the main attractions were an elephant in single stone and Krishnas butterball. Each and every statue in Mahabalipuram reflects the innovations made by the Pallava Kings. The monuments are located close together and we can simply walk from one monument to another. With the help of a guide we were able to understand the history behind the monuments. [caption id="attachment_989" align="alignnone" width="300"] Mahabalipuram[/caption] We had a great time watching monuments at Mahabalipuram, Pancha Pandava Rathas, Sea Shore Temple, Krishna Mandapam, Mamallapuram Lighthouse, Ganesha Ratham, Trimurti Cave, Varaha Mandapam, Mahishasuramardini Cave, Pancha Pandava Cave, Varaha Cave Temple and the beach. The holiday rentals available there were all at affordable rates. We stayed at Chariot beach resort. The stay offered to us was really nice. By visiting this place you can better understand the interest of the Pallavas in sculptures. Mahabalipuram is an amazing UNESCO World Heritage Site which should not be missed if you are planning for a trip to Tamil Nadu.
