The Navy Open Laser Championship, a national level open sailing event started at the Ettikulam Bay of the Indian Naval Academy (INA) at Ezhimala on 15th of April 2015. Sailing teams from the three services and all major sailing clubs were invited to participate in the event. Five teams from various sailing teams in different parts of the country, affiliated to the Yachting Association of India (YAI) are participating in the event.
The opening ceremony of the championship was held at the Ettikulam Bay on 15th April. The event was inaugurated by Commodore Lalit Bhatnagar of the INA.
The participants had to compete on ‘Laser-Standard’ and ‘Laser-Radial’ class of sail-boats in nine races spread over three days for cumulative prize money of over Rs 50,000.
The event will promote the sport of sailing in India as well as provide national level exposure to the cadets of INA. The closing ceremony of the event, along with the prize distribution would be held on April 18th.
Tourism Department commenced ‘Visit Kerala 2015’ in association with airlines on 15th April 2015 to coincide with Vishu. Vishu is an important Kerala festival. Payasam and the traditional Kerala food were distributed to the travelers of Air India, Air India Express and Jet Airways.
The campaign was organized in the Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode International airports. The travelers were warmly greeted with flowers and welcome cards, and also served payasam in packets with the Visit Kerala Logo.
