Chail is a hill station of Himachal Pradesh located about 44 kms from Shimla. Bhupinder Singh, the Maharaja of Patiala, built Chail when he was exiled from Shimla and decided to create his summer capital, as Chail. This is one of the popular hill stations of India. This hill station is also known as the hiker’s paradise. The world’s highest Cricket Pitch is situated here. The place is situated amidst the forests of chir pine and gigantic deodars.

The main places to visit in Chail are:

Maharaja’s Palace: Chail Palace was built in 1891. There are wide variety of cottages, suites and rooms with different tariffs, big lawns, children’s park, and a lover’s hill in the Palace. Sports facilities are also available in the Palace.

Chail Sanctuary: The wildlife sanctuary is spread over an area of 110 square kilometer. The inhabitants of the sanctuary include Sambar, Goral, and Cheer Pheasants. Barking deer and Kalijin are also seen here. The best time to visit here is from March to October.

Cricket Ground: The cricket ground was built in 1893. This cricket pitch is also used as polo ground and is situated at a height of 2144m.

Sidh Baba Ka Mandir: This temple was built by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. It is believed that a 'sidh', appeared in the Maharaja's dream, and declared that this was the place where he had meditated and so he built this temple here.

You can enjoy doing outdoor activities such as hiking, trekking or angling. There are a few trek routes in Chail such as the Kandaghat-Chail, Chail-Rajgarh and Chur Chandni and Chail-Shimla via Junga. Shimla are Kasauli are also visible from here by overlooking the Satluj valley.
