Kozhikode (Calicut) Holiday homestays, Serviced apartments & Villas

Calicut was the Spice Capital of Kerala. The place was the capital of Malabar during the rule of Zamorins. It is believed that the name Calicut came from the hand woven cloth calico which was made here.  The city is called Kozhikode in local language.

During the month of January Malabar Mahotsavam is conducted here. The important concerts and the fireworks are conducted here at the beach.

The main tourist spots here are:

Mananchira Square: Mananchira Square is located in the heart of Kozhikode city. There is a Tank also which is fed by a natural spring. This was built by Mana Vikrama, the last Zamorin King. The estate near the tank is now converted into a park. You can see here a musical fountain and landscaped lawns surrounded by traditional buildings in the Kerala style. The Kozhikode Public Library is also situated here.

Kappad Beach: This is a beautiful historic beach situated about 20 km from Calicut. It is here that Vasco da Gama with his sailors landed in 1498.

Beypore: It is located 10 km from Calicut. This is a ship-building port.  The place is one of the busiest fishing harbors in Kerala. Here you can see the making of Uru. Small size ship models can be bought from the shops around. There are cargoships sailing from Beypore. There is also a beautiful beach and walkway that extends deep into the sea.

Pazhassi Raja Museum and Art Gallery: The museum displays old coins, mural paintings and monuments and the Art Gallery has some excellent paintings, some by Raja Ravi Varma.

Thusharagiri Waterfalls: A best place to visit for the nature lovers. The Waterfalls is located about 50 kms from the city. You have to trek to reach the waterfalls.
