Sabarimala Dharmashastha Temple: The temple here is decated to Lord Ayyappa and is located on top of a hill. This temple is situated in the middle of Forest and is fully surrounded by various mountains. Only males are permitted to enter Sabarimala irrespective of their caste and religion.
Gavi: This is a small village in Pathanamthitta spread across the beauty of Periyar Tiger Reserve. This forest heaven is abundant with magnificent Wildlife including the tiger, elephants, leopards, bears, Indian gaur, sambar, barking & Mouse deers, lion tailed macaque, other varieties of monkeys, Nilgiri Marten and many more. The place is home to over 320 species of birds –the great Indian hornbills, sunbirds, woodpeckers, kingfishers and myriads of mynas, dongos, cuckoos and bulbuls. This is a base camp for deep jungle trekkers, birdwatchers, and nature lovers.
Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple: This is a big temple on the bank of River Pampa dedicated to Lord Krishna. The 'Thiruvonathoni' here during Onam season is very famous. During that time 'Vallasadya' is arranged. The trademark of the place is 'Aranmula Kannadi'.
Konni Forest Reserve: The place is the gateway to the forest bordering the district and is located 11 kms from the city. There is an Elephant cage here. The wild elephants were brought here in the past and were trained.
Paliakara Church: This is a 200 years old church located in Thiruvalla. Thiruvalla is located about 1 hour drive from Pathanamthitta. The church has a collection of beautiful mural paintings.
Thrikkaviyoor Mahadevar Temple: This is one of the oldest Shiva temples of Kerala. The temple is located about 6 kms from Thiruvalla.
Thiruvalla Srevallabha Temple: The temple is located about 3 kms from Thiruvall railway station. This is one of the famous Vaisnavite temples in Kerala. Kathakali, the classical dance of Kerala, is performed almost all nights in this temple.
Kozhencherry: This is the place where the famous religious convention known as the Maramon convention is held annually in February/ March on the river bed at Maramon. This is the biggest religious gathering of the Christians in Asia.
Koduman: The main attraction of this place is the Spider temple. It is said that spider poison is cured by praying at this temple.
Mannadi: The place is situated near Adoor. This is the place where Veluthambi Dalawa, the courageous freedom fighter of Travancore spent his last days. You can see here an ancient Bhagavathi temple with beautiful stone sculptures. The main festival here is Ushabali, in February/ March.
Aranmula Boat Race: This is held on the last day of the week long Onam festival to commemorate the crossing of the river Pamba by Lord Krishna.
The best season to visit is from October to March as it is winter here. The nearest airport to the city is Thiruvananthapuram and the nearest railway stations are Chengannur (26 km) and Thiruvalla (31 km).
